This book takes a practical problem-solution approach to common business challenges. You'll not only encounter interesting code samples, but also see how to combine these examples with the Microsoft collaboration platform's services. The book's solutions focus on using Visual Studio 2008 and its built-in Office development tools to construct the user interface layer. And solutions can interact with SharePoint as a service provider, taking advantage of SharePoint's many collaboration features like document repositories, collaboration sites, and search functions. This book is unique because it starts with challenges that end users deal with every day when using the Microsoft collaboration platform to support business processes. The solutions are presented as hypothetical business challenges of a fictional company. By presenting the examples in this context, author Ed Hild makes it easier to relate to the challenges and solution value. The goal of these examples is to build applications that apply the benefits of the Office desktop interface to the richness of SharePoint collaboration features. This book will help you develop real-world solutions to complex business problems and challenges.

A growing, aging population; the rise to epidemic proportions of various chronic diseases; competing, often overlapping medical technologies; and of course, skyrocketing costs compounded by waste and inefficiency - these are just a few of the multifarious challenges currently facing healthcare delivery. An unexpected source of solutions is being imported from the manufacturing sector: lean thinking.  Lean Principles for Healthcare presents a conceptual framework, management principles, and practical tools for professionals tasked with designing and implementing modern, streamlined healthcare systems or overhauling faulty ones. Focusing on core components such as knowledge management, e-health, patient-centeredness, and collaborative care, chapters illustrate lean concepts in action across specialties (as diverse as nursing, urology, and emergency care) and around the globe. Extended case examples show health systems responding to consumer needs and provider realities with equal efficiency and effectiveness, and improved quality and patient outcomes. Further, contributors tackle the gamut of technological, medical, cultural, and business issues, among them:   Initiatives of service-oriented architecture towards performance improvement Adapted lean thinking for emergency departments Lean thinking in dementia care through smart assistive technology Supporting preventive healthcare with persuasive services Value stream mapping for lean healthcare A technology mediated solution to reduce healthcare disparities Geared toward both how lean ideas can be carried out and how they are being used successfully in the real world, Lean Principles for Healthcare  not only brings expert knowledge to healthcare managers and health services researchers but to all who have an interest in superior healthcare delivery.

Microsoft SharePoint products and technologies have become increasingly popular as a collaboration solution for organizations. A large reason for this is the seamless integration of its features into the Office desktop tools. However, many developers have yet to take advantage of this platform and the power it holds to solve problems in the workplace. Our book will take a practical problem/solution approach to common business challenges. The goal is not just to provide the reader with some interesting code samples, but for them to see the Microsoft collaboration platform as a set of services and our examples as patterns in how they can be combined. The book's solutions will focus on using Visual Studio Tools for Office to build the user interface layer. The exciting thing about extending the Office desktop tools is that business users already know how to use them. This will increase user adoption and even quicken development time. The book's solutions will interact with SharePoint as a service provider taking advantage of its many collaboration features including document repositories, collaboration sites, and search. The solutions in the book will be presented as business challenges of a fictional company. By presenting our examples within a context, our readers will find it easier to relate to challenges and the value of our solutions. This book is unique because it starts with challenges that end users deal with everyday when using the Microsoft collaboration platform to support business processes. It is about building applications that apply the benefits of the Office desktop interface with the richness of SharePoint's collaboration features.

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Marketing, Corporate Communication, CRM, Market Research, Social Media, grade: 1,0, Avans+ Hogeschool B.V., Breda (Verwaltungs- und Wirtschaftsakademie, Krefeld), course: Bachelor of Business Administration, 93 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: First of all, the following chapter will deal with the framework of brand evaluation. To give an idea of the internet service provider Yahoo!, the company will be introduced in the first part. The next part concentrates on the role an established brand plays and what effect it has. The following chapter will point out what it means to lead a brand and which value it has to a company. As a matter of course, the conclusions will be related to the special case of Yahoo!. To provide a general survey of the topic of brand evaluation, the next chapter deals with the economical and judicial frame. It explains the situation within the topic of intangible assets and their special treatment concerning the balance sheet. In Chapter 2.4.2 the different causes for brand evaluation will be described and the cause of acquisition will be determined as the appropriate cause for the present case of Yahoo!. Chapter 2.5 concentrates on the necessary requirements for a sufficient and objective brand evaluation, especially in the case of acquisition. Before three of the most important and established methods of brand evaluation will be analysed, the large number of all current methods have to be categorised. For that reason the third chapter will start with the classification of methods. After regarding the three possible categories, the last part will come to the decision for just one category, which comes into question for the present case.(...) After these three analyses, it is possible to overlook the whole topic of brand evaluation. Chapter 2.5 defines the general requirements for an objective method of brand evaluation. The following chapters will survey three of the most popular models and will point out their advantages and disadvantages. In the result conclusions can be drawn from the accomplished analyses. In this way a new suitable method of calculation will be developed in Chapter 4.2. It is a try to find a solution for the problem of the current methods' weaknesses and to create an objective method, which regards the most important criteria and fulfils the requirements for an impartial evaluation.

Solution-based casework is an approach to assessment, case planning, and case management that combines what we know from clinical social work with what we value about sound social work practice. It is grounded in family-centered social work and draws from clinical approaches within social work and mental health. By integrating problem- and solution-focused approaches that form the clinical and social work traditions, treatment partnerships are more easily formed between family, caseworker, and service provider. Solution-Based Casework is a skill-based, practice-oriented text that provides the specific guidance that students and new practitioners need in order to make sense quickly of the complex tasks of assessment and case planning in child welfare.

Health Information System (HIS) is widely recognized as a technology enabler which improves patient care coordination, enhances provider productivity and facilitates knowledge management activities. A multitude of stand-alone administrative and clinical management systems exist, but their true value is realized when they become an integrated electronic health record solution that can address information requirements across multiple functions. In Malawi, the national Health Management Information System is integrated while at the district level there are stand-alone systems. Stand-alone systems are common in most countries and are a major cause of fragmentation especially in developing countries. Evidence shows that information derived from fragmented systems is untimely and not effective for management use. To address this issue, organisations worldwide are collaborating to integrate stand-alone systems into one. This book is based on a study of two significant systems at the district level, i.e. District Health Information System and drug Logistics Management Information System. The objective was to assess the implications of their integration for improved healthcare services.
